2026 NZCB Apprentice Challenge entries open

Entries for the 2026 NZCB Apprentice Challenge are now open.

Now in its 16th year and delivered in partnership with BCITO and Mitre 10 Trade, the Apprentice Challenge is one of the biggest events on the construction calendar.

All apprentices are encouraged to get involved. The challenge is free to enter for apprentices employed by NZCB members and provides a valuable opportunity to test skills, learn, meet new people, and make a positive impact in the community.

The challenge has two stages: the regional heats and the national final. Regional heats will be held on 18 April 2026 at locations around the country, where apprentices will put their practical skills and time management to the test. Each entrant will have eight hours to complete a build project that they will donate to their local community.

This year, apprentices will be tasked with building a Pātaka community sharing cupboard that can hold books, toys or food. The design for the Pātaka was created by ADNZ student Matt Brown Their innovative concept will be brought to life by apprentices at the regional heats.

The top-performing apprentices will go on to compete at the national final, held at the NZCB Conference in Auckland on 5 and 6 June 2026. Finalists will compete for the national title and a prize package valued at $10,000.

Entries close 16 March. For more information about the 2026 Apprentice Challenge, check out the 2026 Entry Guide or visit apprenticechallenge.nz.
