About Us
Backing the next generation of builders.
Building isn’t just about nailing timber – it’s also about the people behind the hammers.
At NZCB, we believe that when the building industry does well, New Zealand does well. That’s why the NZCB Apprentice Trust was created – to help apprentices overcome challenges and stay on track.
Training as a builder isn’t always easy. Travel, tools, study commitments, living costs – it can all add up. The Apprentice Trust helps remove these barriers, so apprentices can focus on completing their training and building a future they’re proud of.
Through financial grants, the Trust provides practical support, recognises effort and achievement, and backs those who are serious about their trade.

Our Focus
Started by members, for all apprentices.
The Trust was inspired by a real story – one that showed just how easily talented apprentices can fall through the cracks.
While attending a two-week block course over 170 km from home, an apprentice was found living in his van. With his wages spent on fuel, he was surviving on just bread and hot drinks from the Polytechnic. No one knew until the course was almost over.
When the situation was shared with an NZCB member, it sparked action.
Since then, the NZCB Apprentice Trust has helped apprentices across the country overcome financial stress, unexpected hardship, and practical challenges – so they can finish their training and become qualified tradespeople.
The Trust is proudly supported by NZCB members, industry partners, and donors who believe in backing apprentices and strengthening the future of the trade.
