In the News: Insulation standards, homeowner demands, and how we can build better

Malcolm had a great conversation with Newstalk ZB’s Peter Wolfkamp on The Resident Builder podcast about the raft of changes being proposed by the National-led Government, and what it means for the building industry.

The conversation started with the proposals to roll-back H1 insulation standards, and the work that NZCB did to quantify the actual costs imposed by the standards compared with anecdotal evidence.

This involved a survey of NZCB members about the extra costs they’d seen in recent projects, as well as more detailed research carried out on the extra H1 costs according to different methods of calculating insulation requirements.

Peter and Malcolm then looked ahead to what might be coming next for the industry, and how changing homeowner demand might be met by builders in the future.
