Linked to Habitat Nelson’s growing portfolio of properties in the Top of the South (TeTauihu) region, is a pipeline of remedial work, renovation, and maintenance projects. This creates an opportunity for a seasoned building professional to project manage the work required.

Independent contractor service requirements Working with the Manager Housing Developments and Buildings Projects, you will utilize your extensive project management experience in the building sector to:

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage build projects from initiation to completion
  • Oversee onsite, builds, remedial works, renovations, and ongoing maintenance activities
  • Develop and maintain project timelines, budgets, and resource allocations
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution
  • Conduct site inspections and ensure building and construction regulatory compliance as well as HASWA standards
  • Resolve project-related issues and adapt plans as needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting throughout the project lifecycle
  • Use project management and scheduling software to track progress and communicate updates

Who We Are Looking For You will have significant proven residential building experience behind you, ideally including some multi unit construction. You will be a qualified carpenter / builder and have LBP certification in Licence Class Carpentry and Site Level 2. You are comfortably computer literate and have prepared comprehensive project plans including scheduling tools to effectively manage and control multiple projects concurrently. In addition to keeping on top of the numbers and progress, you can demonstrate that your strong people skills have successfully motivated and managed teams. Your relationships with contractors and other key stakeholders have led to positive outcomes through robust and collaborative communication. Risk and compliance management comes second nature to you as you can demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice and other compliance requirements that need to be managed in building and construction.

This is an Independent Contractor engagement so you will have experience in successfully managing your own business affairs. Our pipeline estimates approximately 12 months of forward work offering circa 30 hours per week.

As a contractor you will need to have your own vehicle and sufficient tools and equipment to do the job. Payment will be based on an agreed hourly rate. Travel to sites outside of Nelson/Richmond, within the top of the south region will be paid a travel allowance.
