For the first time since 2017, the NZCB Conference and Expo returned to Auckland, with more than 300 delegates making their way to the New Zealand International Conference Centre on 5 and 6 June.
MC Jeremy Corbett got things underway and kept the programme moving along with a dash of his signature humour. With member panels on real industry issues, learning labs packed with practical business tools, and sessions exploring technical advances to improve building outcomes, the programme offered plenty of valuable takeaways.
One of the highlights of this year’s conference were the keynote speakers, who delivered fascinating insights on business, leadership, and life.

Gilbert Enoka, mental performance coach for the All Blacks, reminded attendees that there are no silver bullets or easy answers in life. His message, that “choices, not chances, determine your destiny. You can give in, give up or give it everything you’ve got”, was reinforced through an interactive reflection and discussion session that helped bring the lessons to life.
Economist Shamubeel Eaqub delivered some valuable thoughts on New Zealand’s economic and financial outlook. He encouraged attendees to look beyond political personalities and instead focus on how political change affects the wider business environment. Alongside his economic analysis, he also shared practical advice on how businesses can make the most of opportunities for growth.
The breakout sessions were well attended, with lawyers from Martelli McKegg and accountants from Andersen New Zealand sharing practical guidance on contracts and accounting fundamentals to help members strengthen their businesses.
Several NZCB members also stepped up to join the member panels and share their experiences. Special thanks to Andy Wells (Tasman Homes), Shaun Begovich (Begovich Builders), Mike Hayward (Hayward Builders), Mark Thompson (Fairfield Construction), Paul Webster-Young (Twin Solutions Ltd), Shaun Spillane (S.A.S. Builders) and Wade Haldane (Renovation Works).
The conference also gave attendees plenty of chances to connect, whether at the expo, Friday evening drinks or the final event of the weekend – the NZCB Awards and Gala Dinner, hosted by Michelle A’Court.

The evening began with the presentation of the first ever People’s Choice Award for Best Expo Stand, which went to Z Business. This year also saw long-standing Whangārei member Howard Harnett of Harnett Builders receive an Honorary Member Award, an announcement that was met with a standing ovation.
The final announcement of the night was the winner of the 2026 NZCB Apprentice Challenge.
Caidan Brien of Mangawhai claimed first place, followed by Rotorua’s Taylor Forrest in second and Canterbury’s Joe McFadyen in third. Wellington’s Lucas Carroll received the Chairman’s Personality Award, while Hawke’s Bay’s Reuben Mitchell was the inaugural recipient of the People’s Choice for Best Build.

Thank you to the members, partners and exhibitors who joined us for this year’s conference and for helping to make it such a valuable and successful event. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year in Christchurch.
